Homoeopathy:
Classical homoeopathy is an all-round medicinal therapy based on well defined scientific principles and values. Rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health is the supreme ideal and aim of every homoeopath hence the remedies are diluted beyond physical matter and prescribed according to individual needs in order to avoid side effects and suppression. “Similar similbus curentur” meaning “similar cures similar” signifies the truth upon where homoeopathy was formed. Hahnemann (1755-1843) – a German doctor and chemist - found that what a substance can induce it can also cure and thereby expanded, developed and proved theories previous articulated by men such as Paracelsus (1493-1541) and Albrecht von Haller (1708-77).
Natural:
Nature is the best guide to health and homoeopathy is established according to easy comprehensible natural principles and laws. A very important aspect in homoeopathy is that the homoeopathic remedies stimulate the immune system to cure certain imbalances instead of inhibiting, blocking and suppressing the natural body processes which is otherwise the formula of allopathic conventional medicine.
The reactions of the “Immune System” referred to in Homoeopathy as the “Vital Force”
By only stimulating with natural homoeopathic remedies the body is then able to adjust and re-generate equilibrium without unnecessary stress in or on the cells and organs. The stimulation principle is a well known pharmacological law called “The Arndt-Schultz’s Law” which state that “for every substance – small doses stimulate, moderate doses inhibit and large doses kill”. It is evident that health and cure is not obtained by inhibiting or killing thus stimulation is the major method of re-establishing health.
In essence homoeopathy endeavour to follow natural ethics on all levels from the substances from which the remedies are made to the regulation upon which they are prescribed as well as in the contact with the patient.
Holistic:
Homoeopathy is a holistic therapy where the whole body, the mind and emotional aspects are contemplated simultaneously. This is done in order to discern individual characteristics, symptoms and signs of the patient. Individualisation is the main key in classical homoeopathy and that which verify the selection of the correct homoeopathic remedy. For that reason the first consultation will last circa 2 hours and following consultations between 1-2 hours giving not only the appropriate time to establish a good relationship between the patient and practitioner but also to explore profoundly the symptoms of the patients. Conceiving the person as a whole encompasses the reality that every being is unique and requires individual treatment which then ensures that each symptom, minor as major, experienced by the patient is considered important and of great significance. The person is respected and appreciated, without prejudice, as an individual being and the needs expressed by the patient are sincerely complied with.
Symptoms and Disease:
“In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force is the dynamis that animates the material body, which rules with unbounded sway and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operation, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purpose of our existence”
Such are the words in § 9 in the Organon of Medicine written by Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy, and this understanding influences how homoeopaths sees symptoms and diseases. As described before, homoeopathy is holistic and therefore perceives physical, emotional and psychological imbalances as equally important, however, there exist a certain hierarchy which determines health. A person is not considered healthy before he or she is free from pain on all levels, which means that a person, despite not having any physical pain experiences for example an overwhelming discontentment, cannot be considered cured. Feeling content and energised are the foremost important improvements from a homoeopathic point of view and physical pain can therefore be considered secondary to the general wellbeing.
Disease is a vibrational disorder of the internal organs and the manifestation of symptoms are an expression of the imbalanced organs. Mainly symptom manifestations come about by some harmful stimulus, be it bacteria, a virus, toxins, trauma or shock, which causes a reaction in the immune system (called vital force in homoeopathy). The severity of the reaction depends on the health of the organism at the time as well as the strength of the harmful stimulus. However, each organ has its own state of health and the organism’s vital force has its own optimal state of vibration. As the harmful stimulus produces a change in the vibration of the vital force, a similar vibration creates resonance within the vital force, which moves the organism into a state of disease, away from its optimal state. Resonance is produced by weakness and lowered vitality. Many infections exist continually in the environment, but once vitality falls, through for example stress, the infection can influence the vital force also called the immune system, where before in an optimal state of health the infection could not develop. Therefore the harmful stimulus can cause different reactions in different people, depending on the person’s individual state and predispositions. To example two people can be infected by the same influenza virus but one person only manifest symptoms of a common cold whereas the other person spend two weeks in bed with temperature and vomiting, thus each individual’s vital force resonates to the same stimulus differently. Many of the conditions which we call diseases and label with peculiar names are in fact not diseases per se but symptoms resulting from a resonating immune system which is in the process of treating the harmful stimulus in the best possible way. Every symptom, from a mild headache to cancer, is a process of the body to establish equilibrium and it is therefore very important not to suppress, inhibit or block this process but instead help the body to overcome the imbalance by stimulating its healing power.
